3 Reasons Why I've Fallen In Love With Networking

As a woman running a small business, networking has been a game changer for me. I didn't realise how much I would love meeting new people and building connections with other entrepreneurs and professionals from so many different sectors.

Doors that might otherwise have stayed firmly shut, have started to open for me. Whether I’m attending events, engaging online, or chatting and sharing successes and challenges, networking has helped me in so many ways.

#1 Breaking Free! Finding My Connections

Running a business can sometimes feel pretty isolating. I work on my own in my studio and regardless of how many podcasts or supercool music (and believe me, it is supercool) I listen to, it can still feel a wee bit lonely. It’s great to get out of my space and interact with other people, and the fact they’re an inspiring group of badass women makes it even better!

Networking has given me the opportunity to connect with women who understand my journey and challenges. The connections you make at these events can lead to mentorship, advice, and importantly emotional support that can help you push past those times when things are feeling a bit tough (or sometimes very tough). I’ve also found they are great for celebrating the wins too, no matter how big or small! Women’s business groups, online or in person, create a great sense of camaraderie that has helped keep me motivated and helped build my confidence

The fabulous women from Fuse Networking. At first I was really nervous, but the group is really supportive of each other and my confidence grew and grew.

#2 Getting My Power Back!

Networking isn’t all about exchanging business cards, it’s about building genuine relationships. This in turn can increase your chances of finding new clients, business partnerships, and collaborations that can take your brand and business to another level. You just never know who you're going to meet! I often thought I could do it alone, but over the last 12 months realise that the journey and struggles (and successes) are best shared. It's also about personal growth too. Networking has increased my confidence and given me my power back.

#3 Building Up My Street Cred.

As a woman in business, getting noticed can be challenging at times. Networking can help establish your presence and build credibility. I now have several fabulous cheerleaders who recommend or vouch for me. I feel really lucky and I love being their cheerleader too!

In terms of new business I've had many commissions via networking groups, mainly through Social Media. And I get an even bigger buzz when I can recommened people back. People buy from people and the more people that know who you are and what you do, helps builds trust and recognition which in turn can potentially lead to more clients and sales.

My Final Thoughts

Networking is more than just a business strategy, it’s a tool for empowerment! I think that we can often feel embarrassed about the prospect of Networking and selling ourselves, it can be pretty daunting! I am however a huge believer in doing things that scare you, and going alone to networking groups and having to pitch gave me the absolute fear! I did it though, and now I really enjoy it. Yes I still get nervous but I have met so many interesting and incredible women that I would never have met had I not overcome that fear. Surrounding yourself with a strong network of women who have your back means you gain the support, opportunities, and visibility needed to thrive. So, I challenge you to step out of your comfort zone, attend that event, join that online group, and start making connections that will grow your business and your confidence!

Thank you to everyone I’ve met at all my networking groups. Each and everyone of you have been part of my networking journey - and continue to do so.
